Learn about handling pellet stoves and wood pellets in your climate calculation.
There are many ways to heat offices and spaces, one of which is using a pellet stove, fueled by wood pellets.
Is a Pellet Stove CO2 Neutral?
In Denmark, heating with a pellet stove is considered CO2-neutral. This is because the CO2 absorbed by the trees during their lifetime is seen as equal to the CO2 released when the wood pellets are burned.
When you are calculating your company's climate impact and want to include your pellet stove, it is not the amount of wood pellets that needs to be measured. Since the stove uses electricity, it is the electricity used by the stove that should be included in the calculation.
Where Should the Electricity Used for the Pellet Stove Be Included?
In Valified’s CO2 calculator, you can include this under the Energy and Processes menu on the left side. In the Electricity tab, you can add the electricity used to keep the pellet stove running. It’s a good idea to add a note specifying that this consumption is related to the pellet stove, so there’s a clear overview.
